Innovative technologies, digital sensors and scientific analysis: Growing the perfect piece of fruit at the Tatura SmartFarm.

Session 2B

9.50am – 10:20am Growing and cooking with bush foods

Bush foods are new but old, find out how you can support our indigenous heritage by understanding how to grow and use traditional food plants.

Session 3

10.25am – 10.55am Beef Industry

Learn all about breeds of cattle, livestock handling and beef husbandry practices. Plus learn about where your favourite cuts of meat come from, and the range of careers in the Australian beef industry.

Learn about pests and diseases in agriculture and how a career in Biosecurity ensures we have plentiful and healthy food.

11.35am – 12.05pm Goat Industry

Goats are an emerging industry in Australia. Learn all about goats from meat to cheese and the range of careers in the Australian goat industry.

11.35am – 12.05pm Climate Change and Agriculture

Every aspect of Agriculture is affected by the climate, too much rain, not enough rain, temperatures, floods, fires and storms!!!!! Climate change is a major issue that is impacting the ability for us to grow our food. Learn how climate change is changing the way we farm now and into the future.

12.10pm – 12.40pm Sheep & Wool

Discover the different characteristics of wool, breeds of sheep and meat quality. Learn more about the workings of a shearing shed (including shearing and crutching) and the use of technology to improve productivity and breeding.

Session 5E

12.10pm – 12.40pm Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil; instead plants are grown using water-based nutrient solutions. Learn about the technology and innovation behind hydroponics.Due to unforseen circumstances this session is unavailable. Please feel welcome to join the Sheep & Wool session running at the same time.

Session 6

12.45pm – 1.15pm Dairy Industry

Take a virtual tour of a state-of-the-art robotic dairy. Understand the size and scope of the regional dairy industry and how you can build a successful career - on or off farm.
